Proud Scholars will adhere to the highest ethical standards in supporting a minority that is increasingly sensitive to social injustice. We recognize that public trust in our performance is critical to our student success. We will strive to find community members that can contribute and demonstrate their ongoing commitment to our core values of integrity, responsible stewardship, and community.

The Diversity of the United States should make us stronger as a whole but is increasingly difficult to maintain that strength. The LGBT youth are often the target of unethical treatment, social injustice, and bias that they do not deserve. To support their ever-changing needs we have redefined for ourselves how a transparent, ethical, and diverse organization should function. It is no longer acceptable to deliver the minimum to build trust in the community. We will deliver the maximum in each area of our organization to help us connect with students, donors, businesses, organizations, and the community at large.

All staff, board members, and volunteers of the organization act with honesty, integrity, and openness as representatives of the organization.

The organization promotes a working environment that values respect, fairness, and integrity.

We have a policy of promoting inclusiveness and our board and volunteers reflect diversity in order to enrich its programmatic effectiveness. We take meaningful steps to promote inclusiveness in hiring, retention, promotion, board recruitment, and constituencies served.

Value Statement

Integrity – We believe in doing what is appropriate for the community. We conduct our business in accordance with the highest standards of professional behavior and ethics. We are transparent and authentic in all our interactions. We manage our program with the utmost attentiveness and recognize the responsibility we have in making our community stronger by helping students succeed.

Responsible stewardship – We are committed to careful stewardship of all human and financial resources. We carefully use the time and talents of those working with Proud Scholars and we wisely spend the funds invested in us. We provide needed services and stand up for the underrepresented LGBT students in the community and pioneer solutions to major social problems. We maintain a strong balance between year-to-year payouts and long-term investments that will help sustain students into the future.

Community – We believe more can be accomplished by complementing existing programs available in the community. We accept responsibility for helping to create a culture of acceptance that promotes diversity. We challenge the status quo by setting high expectations and continually evaluating how to improve our services to meet the needs of LGBT students and their families.
